Rennes, May 14, 2025 — After several years of R&D and eco-designing everyday objects, Greenfib, creator of a 100% bio-based and durable material, has been awarded the prestigious Solar Impulse Efficient Solution label. An international recognition that highlights solutions that are both profitable and beneficial for the environment.

A validation of our environmental and industrial impact.

Awarded by the Solar Impulse Foundation, this label is based on a rigorous evaluation carried out by independent experts. It recognizes solutions capable of combining environmental performance with economic viability. The meticulous selection process began in 2024, with the registration of solutions — a first key step for Greenfib. Today marks a new milestone: Greenfib officially joins this select circle of innovations considered capable of addressing the major challenges of the ecological transition.

This is a symbolic milestone for our team and a recognition of the work accomplished, particularly by Alphonse Vidalinc, our Head of Materials. This certification reinforces the legitimacy of our mission: to facilitate eco-design and foster the development of eco-friendly behaviors — accessible, practical, and desirable for manufacturers, distributors, and users across all sectors,’ says Cyr Dioré, co-founder of Greenfib.

A milestone reached toward the democratization of eco-materials

Patented, 100% bio-based, derived from non-food crops, durable, and recyclable, the greenfib® material represents a credible alternative to petroleum-based plastics. Produced in France, it embodies a viable solution for more sustainable materials. Now certified by Solar Impulse, it further establishes itself as a reference among the industrial solutions of the future. This recognition opens new opportunities for the company to accelerate its development and encourage decision-makers to commit to more sustainable models.

Greenfib brings together two dimensions that are dear to Bertrand Piccard: logic and ecology. ‘Etymologically, ecology is the knowledge of the home. Economy is the management of the home. Greenfib provides a good answer to a well-posed question,’ explains Luc Menetrey, co-founder of Greenfib.

About the Solar Impulse Foundation:

Founded by explorer Bertrand Piccard, the Solar Impulse Foundation aims to identify, label, and promote clean, profitable solutions that are available today and capable of addressing environmental challenges without compromising growth. With more than 1,000 solutions labeled since 2021, it supports public and private decision-makers in implementing concrete actions for a sustainable future.

About Greenfib:

Greenfib® is both the name of the material and the brand behind it. Patented in 2011, it positions itself as an alternative to petroleum-based plastics that are disposable and designed for single use.

Greenfib is 100% bio-based, does not compete with food resources, is durable, recyclable through dedicated channels, and manufactured in France, close to where it is used.

It is a high-performance polymer in the form of pellets that include natural materials, such as plant fibers and mineral fillers reduced to powder. It is combined with an existing compound, Rilsan, made from castor oil and supplied by Arkema, a partner of Greenfib since its early days.

Many companies already place their trust in Greenfib, including BIC, Armolux, Regenbox, and Phileole.

Greenfib is based near Vannes and in Poitiers, with an office at Eclozr in Rennes. The company is supported by Bpifrance. Its leaders are also involved in networks such as Dirigeants Responsables and Germe.
